How to scope your first business software project

Begin with one complete workflow before expanding into a larger platform.

Begin with one complete workflow before expanding into a larger platform.

Follow one task from start to finish

Write down how an order, enquiry or request enters the business, which people handle it and how you know it is complete.

Identify the source of truth

List where customer, product and transaction information is stored. Decide which system should own each record and which systems need a copy.

Make exceptions visible

Returns, incomplete data and delayed approvals are part of the workflow. Include them in the scope so the software reflects everyday operations.

Agree what success looks like

Use concrete acceptance examples: a staff member can find an order, update its status and produce an agreed report. Review the first release against those examples.

Let’s plan your next step.

Tell us about your business, the workflow you want to improve and the outcome you have in mind. We can then define a practical scope together.
